About
Obesity and its relationship with cardiac structure is an important public health issue, with obesity recognized as a risk factor for various cardiovascular diseases. However, the genetic basis linking obesity to changes in cardiac structure remains unclear. By utilizing the comprehensive dataset from the UK Biobank, we aim to investigate the genetic relationship between obesity and cardiac structure. First, we will examine how obesity influences cardiac structure, such as heart chamber size, wall thickness, and atrial dilation, and how these changes are associated with cardiovascular disease risk. Next, we will explore the genetic predisposition to obesity and cardiac structural changes, particularly by leveraging polygenic risk scores (PRS) to quantify the genetic interaction between obesity and cardiac structural variations. Finally, we will investigate how environmental factors (such as diet, exercise, smoking) interact with genetic predisposition to influence the relationship between obesity and cardiac structure, aiming to identify clinically relevant strategies for early detection, accurate diagnosis, and personalized treatment to prevent and treat obesity-related cardiac structural changes.1 Publication
