Existing evidence points to differences in physical, mental, economic, and social outcomes between veterans and civilians. These experiences may vary by gender, with female veterans reporting a greater number of mental and physical health challenges compared to their male counterparts. Despite the growth in research, there is still a substantial knowledge gap regarding the distinct physical, mental, and socioeconomic challenges female veterans face compared to both male veterans and civilians. Our research project aims to examine differences in outcomes using the UK Biobank data. We will be focusing on a number of outcomes including the physical, mental, and socioeconomic needs of veterans compared to civilians. We will further investigate whether these outcomes may differ by gender. This research will provide valuable insights into whether veterans confront health and social inequalities and barriers compared to civilians. The findings from this research can assist in tailoring support services, improving interventions, and drafting policies to address the specific needs of veterans. The project is expected to run until December 2025.1 Publication
