Abstract
This project analysed data from UK Biobank participants with self-reported Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), compared to those who did not report that condition. The aim was to compare patterns of multimorbidity (more than one long term health condition), polypharmacy (multiple medications) and risk of adverse drug reactions (people taking 3 or more medications with the same potential adverse effect). The majority of people with COPD had multimorbidity. Across several potential risks (including falls, bleeding, constipation, urinary retention, kidney injury, and central nervous system depression) people with COPD were more likely than those without COPD to be taking 3 or more medications associated with that risk.
