Notes
Adding this field to a basket will grant access to the covid19_result_england, covid19_result_scotland and covid19_result_wales tables on the Data Portal. If included, the field will also appear in a main UK Biobank dataset where it will give a count of the number of rows for each participant across these three tables.
This field will also grant access to table covid19_misc in the Data Portal. This table gives participants' blood group extracted from imputed genotyped data (Field 23165) and was added in July 2020 as a result of the suggestion that blood group may affect COVID-19 outcomes.
Details of the structure of the above tables as well as the meaning of the encoded values used can be found by downloading the Covid-19 test result data dictionary. Note that in July 2023 the structure of the covid19_result_scotland table was altered following a change to the database that Scottish COVID-19 test results are extracted from by the data provider.
More details on linkage of microbiological samples to the UK Biobank are available at http://www.bugbank.uk/. Please also see Resource 1758 for more detail about the PHE linkage for the English data.
Please note that prior to 6th July 2021, a small proportion (6.5%) of the records in the covid19_result_scotland table related to lateral flow device testing. These records have been removed and all data in this table now relate to PCR testing. In addition, some issues with linkage that affected 1.4% of records in the covid19_result_england table were identified, and these records were removed in early March 2023.
