About
The increasing prevalence of gynecological, musculoskeletal, neuropsychiatric, and other complex conditions calls for a more integrated approach to understand their underlying etiology and progression. These disorders are often comorbid, pointing to shared genetic, epigenetic, proteomic, metabolomic, and environmental influences. Although each condition presents with unique symptoms, recent research suggests common pathophysiological pathways, such as chronic inflammation, hormonal imbalances, and neuroendocrine disruptions, that may link these diverse disease domains. The multi-layered complexity of these interactions, however, remains underexplored, which has hindered the development of effective, targeted treatment strategies. This study will utilize the rich, multi-faceted UK Biobank data to bridge gaps in our understanding of these interconnected conditions. Specifically, our objectives are to: 1) delineate common molecular pathways (e.g., immune modulation, hormonal signaling) across gynecological, musculoskeletal, neuropsychiatric, and other diseases, revealing the biological networks driving their co-occurrence; 2) analyze how gene-environment interactions contribute to the shared risk factors and progression patterns among these disorders; and 3) construct predictive models that can forecast disease onset, course, and therapeutic response, thereby facilitating early, tailored intervention strategies. Through this integrative framework, we aim to transform the current understanding of these complex diseases, providing insights for preventive and personalized healthcare approaches that address the broad spectrum of conditions that patients may experience concurrently.1 Publication
