About
Ageing-related neurodegenerative Diseases, such as PD, AD, and ALS, are complex diseases influenced predominantly by genetic factors. These disorders are characterized by progressive neurodegeneration, leading to severe impairment in patients' quality of life. Although numerous genetic associations have been identified, the underlying mechanisms remain elusive, contributing to the limited therapeutic options available.
Given the wealth of genetic and phenotypic data available in the UK Biobank, we have a unique opportunity to explore the genetic drivers of these diseases comprehensively. Our study will focus on the genetic determinants, while environmental factors will be also considered. This approach allows us to hone in on the heritable aspects of ageing-related phenotypes and their potential pathways, laying the groundwork for the development of targeted therapies.
