About
Neurological diseases encompass a range of disorders affecting the central and peripheral nervous systems, such as nervous system tumours, psychiatric conditions, neurovascular issues, neuroimmune disorders, neurodegenerative diseases, congenital developmental abnormalities, and more. These conditions collectively contribute significantly to the worldwide disease burden. Treatment choices for neurological illnesses are restricted, and the approval rate of medications for enhancing treatment is low compared to other medical fields. Prior studies have indicated that several risk factors such as pesticide exposure, smoking, and infections are linked to a higher likelihood of acquiring various neurological illnesses. Yet, other underlying causes remain to be identified and their precise impact on neurological disorders elucidated. Our research group will use the UK Biobank and other cohort studies, make full use of Cox proportional hazards model construction, Mendelian randomization and other methods to identify and verify the complex associations between demographic characteristics, environmental factors, genetics, lifestyle, extensive phenotypes, neuroimaging, biomarkers, blood biochemistry indicators, underlying/acquired diseases and treatment modalities, etc., and neurological diseases, to investigate the etiological factors of the development, progression and severity of neurological diseases, identify high-risk groups, achieve early and effective prevention, and provide information for the formulation of future public health policies.
