This screen displayed the 12 word-pairs to be memorised. It was visible for 30 seconds and the length of time was marked by a progress bar at the lower edge of the screen.

The word-pairs were

1. sulking elephant
2. pretty dish
3. huge trousers
4. lucky win
5. happy dog
6. old house
7. tiny cat
8. long curtains
9. sad clown
10. tattered dress
11. new plant
12. red car
