Modifiable lifestyle factors mediate the occurrence of diabetes in the individuals with prediabetes.</p>•
Lower socioeconomic status increased diabetes risk, with lifestyle factors explaining about one-third of this association.</p>•
Results emphasize addressing socioeconomic disparities and supporting lifestyle improvements to reduce diabetes risk.</p>
