Abstract
Coffee consumption might have a beneficial effect on hearing function because of the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of some of its compounds. However, no previous longitudinal study has assessed the association between coffee consumption and the risk of hearing impairment. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess the prospective association between coffee consumption and risk of disabling hearing impairment in middle and older men and women from the UK Biobank study. Our results suggest that coffee consumption was associated with lower risk of disabling hearing impairment in men but not in women, and this association appeared to be independent of the coffee type and the preparation method.
