About
Cardiovascular diseases are responsible for a major part of the morbidity and mortality worldwide. Major cardiovascular diseases include coronary artery disease, atrial fibrillation, heart failure, and hypertension. Over the past decades, our understanding of the mechanisms leading to the development of these diseases has improved, as well as the therapeutic options. Large population-based study like the UK Biobank with over 500.000 individuals has opened up new possibilities to further our understanding of disease mechanisms as well as progression, which would eventually help us improve the strategies combatting these diseases.
In this project we will incorporate artificial intelligence alongside with conventional methods in the analysis of the UK Biobank data with the objectives to 1) identify new risk factors related to cardiovascular diseases 2) understand the relationship between these factors and diseases 3) based on the finding develop better strategies to for screening individuals at risk of those diseases.
